BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
By Gale Boetius Perez (Find a Grave Member47724849)

Alice was the second wife of my grandfather, Johannes Christian Boetius (Find a Grave Memorial 101923415). I became interested in her after I discovered her existence while researching family history, and wanted to honor her.

Alice was born Ida Alice Picco in Grays Harbor, Washington, to Albert James Picco and Theodora A. Erickson. Alice was the youngest of six children - four girls (Elna, Agnes, Elizabeth and Alice) and two boys (Edward and Norman).

In 1920, Alice was employed as a stenographer at an electrical supply company and living in Seattle with her sister Elizabeth ("Minnie"), who was a bookkeeper at a lumber company, and two other women.

Alice moved to Los Angeles in 1920 (she appears in the city directory that year, working as a stenographer). She lived with her sister Agnes, who had married Cleaver Kellogg in 1917 but was by now divorced and using her maiden name.

On December 30, 1922, Alice married John Boetius. Pastor Robert Shuler, the famous evangelist, officiated, at Trinity Methodist Church (1201 S. Flower St., no longer there). John was a clerk for Union Oil Company, and Alice was a stenographer for a book company. Her sister Agnes was witness.

Alice and John divorced in 1929, and Alice lived with her sister Elizabeth at 844 South Westlake and later at an apartment at 1175 North Vermont. Both were employed as stenographers (Alice for a drug company, Elizabeth for a country club). They are still at this address in 1932. In 1936, Alice lived at 1523 North McCadden Place. In the 1938 and 1939 city directory, she and Elizabeth lived at 5866 Hollywood Blvd.

From 1931-1939, Alice was employed as a secretary for Electrical Research Products, Inc., becoming a private secretary. It was at this company that she probably met her second husband, Edward Honan, who was employed there as an engineer.

Alice and Edward married by 1940, as they appear together in the 1940 US Census and lived at 3312 Griffith Park Blvd. in Los Angeles. They retired to Sun City in Riverside County, California. Edward died in 1966.

Alice was my step-grandmother, as her first husband John was my grandfather (although I never knew Alice or John).
