A native of Johnson County and a member of one of Eastern Tennessee’s oldest families, he was the son of the late Dr W R Butler and Rebecca Grayson Butler. His grandfather was the late Roderick R Butler who was for many years a member of the United States Congress.
Butler was a retired rural mail carrier, a member of the Roan Creek Lodge No 679, F & AM and a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs Annie Mae Hazelwood Butler, two sisters, and two brothers. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, May 28 at 2:30 pm in the First Methodist Church of Mountain City. Interment was at the Lake View cemetery Butler.
