A.H. Sherman Is Dead at 77
"Arthur Hoyt Sherman, 77, son of the late Maj. Hoyt Sherman of Des Moines, died at Beverly Hills, Cal., following an operation, according to word received here Thursday. Born in Des Moines, he was a resident here until 1924. He was a member of a pioneer family in the city, and a nephew of the late Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, Civil war officer. His father, who died in 1904, was a founder and early president of the Equitable Life insurance Company of Iowa. The family home at 1501 Woodland Ave., now is known as the Des Moines Women’s club home. Surviving are his wife, the former Corsa Kintzley of Des Moines, a daughter, Mrs. Virginia McClure, Beverly Hills; a granddaughter, Linda McClure; and a sister, Mrs. William O. Griffith, Philadelphia, Penn .A sister-in-law, Mrs. William L. Hassett, Des Moines left by plane Thursday evening for Beverly Hills."
