Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home for George E Bonner, 89, of 202-1/2 N. 2nd St., who died Wednesday morning at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. The Rev Dennis Bailey, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Born Sept. 17, 1896. in Eldora, he was the son of Bernard and Minnie Oakley Bonner. He was educated in the Eldora schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

On July 2, 1922 at Garwin, he was married to Bonnie Phipps. They have made their home in Marshalltown for many years.

Mr. Bonner was employed by the Strand Baking Company for 27 years. Following his retirement from the baking company he worked for several years at, the Avey Funeral Home.

During the 1920s, Mr. Bonner had the Bonner Bears basketball team. They played games in many towns in this area. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Frank Lewis Glick Post No. 46 of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie, two daughters, Shirley Sims and Bette Fullerton of Marshalltown, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

Preceding him in death were four brothers.
