John Berryman, Jr., was a Liberal MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) and commissioner of the Gneral Public Hospital at the time of his death. He served as assistant surgeon with the Union Army. He was born on Dec. 9 1828 at Saint John and married Mary A. Brodie, daughter of Mr. Brodie of London, England, on March 16, 1864. She died six years later on Jan. 14, 1870. He died on Nov. 14, 1900. He was the son of John Berryman. John Berryman, a native of Antrim, Ireland, came to NB and married Miss Wade, of Loyalist parentage. His maternal great-grandfather, Ozias Ansley, served in a Loyalist military unit. John and Marion settled in Saint John.
