Religious Leader. A native of Wiese (now Loucky), near Olomouc in the formerly Autria-Hungary Empire. He received his doctorate in theology from the University of Vienna. He was ordained priest, on April 21, 1833, in Vienna. In the archdiocese of Olomouc, he worked as professor of moral theology of its university for seventeen years. He served also as counselor and secretary to the archbishop and as consistorial chancellor. He was named pastor of the royal and imperial palace. He was appointed by the emperor counselor to the ministry of culture and public institutions, a post he held from 1857 to 1876. On May 11, 1862, he was consecrated titular bishop of Carre and appointed auxiliary of Vienna. He participated in the First Vatican Council, in 1869 and 1870. He was promoted to the metropolitan see of Vienna, on April 15, 1876. Pope Pius IX created him cardinal on June 22, 1877. He took part in the conclave of 1878. He passed away in his episcopal city.
