Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, September 29, 2011. January Heimerl Petrie passed away at Life Path Hospice in Sun City Center, Florida, on August 30, 2011. January was born to Frank and Gabriela Heimerl on January 15, 1921, at St. Nazianz, Wisconsin. She graduated from St. Mary Springs Academy and the University of Wisconsin at Madison where she received a BA degree in Institutional Management and Hospital Dietetics. She interned at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC, and served for two years in the Army Medical Service as a Lieutenant. After discharge she directed and taught dietetics for four years at the Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After her marriage to Robert Petrie, she consulted for many small hospitals and nursing homes in Wisconsin, along with precepting for twenty Food Service manager students, as well as teaching LPNs and Aids at the Technical Institute in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The Petries moved to Sun City Center, Florida, in 1986. Her hobbies included antique collecting, especially dolls. She was a member of QUESTERS and Pelican Players, on stage as well as house and party management. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 246. January was a licensed pilot and traveled extensively. Survivors are her daughter and husband, Suzette and Steven Becker; and their two sons: Matthew and Jonathon of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; a dear sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Ron Vogt; and four nieces and nephews in the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin area. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin. At 10 a.m. visitation will precede the service. Father Richard Thomas, a friend of the Becker's, will officiate. After Military Service, internment will be in the family plot in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin.
