Rev. AMOS EDWARD LAWRENCE was born 25 June 1812 in Genisee, Allegany County, New York to Joseph W Lawrence & Sybil Heath-Lawrence.

Amos was a graduate of Yale University in 1842, spent a year traveling, then continued studies at Union Theological Seminary, where earned his Minister's certificate in 1844.

Amos served as Assistant Secretary of the American Home Missionary Society, in New York City for four years, (1844-1848). He was ordained on 25 June 1848, and was installed over the Presbyterian Church in Cutchogue, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, where he served the congregation for three years (1848-1851). He was installed over the Congregational Church in Southbury, Connecticut on 10 December 1851, where he remained for nine years, until July of 1860, when he was dismissed in order to accept a call to the Congregational Church in Lancaster, Massachusetts, where he remained almost four years, (until 15 March 1864). His next engagement was in Housatonic (village), Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where he preached three years (from 1866 to 1869). Amos removed to Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 1869, and five years later (in 1874) , he removed to Newton, Massachusetts, where he was an honored and recognized citizen. His service as a member and Chairman of the School Committee, was also especially valued.

Amos was first married to Hannah Bowne on 1 September 1846 at Seventh Presbyterian Church, New York, New York County, New York, and they had TWO children of record:

1. (Infant Daughter) Lawrence (? - ?).
2. Horace Lawrence (1850 - ?).

After Hannah passed away (d. 11 Apr 1858), Amos married Ann Maria Crocker on 18 May 1859 at New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts, and they had FOUR children of record:

1. George O Lawrence (1860 - ?),
2. (Infant Son) Lawrence (1861 - ?),
3. Elizabeth Crocker Lawrence-Clarke (1862 - ?), and
4. (Pyhsicist) Amos Edward Lawrence, Jr (1863 - ?).

After Ann Maria passed away(d. 20 Aug 1865), Amos was married a third time, on 12 June 1867, to Lucy Watson Davis. There is no record of issue my this marriage.

Amos passed away on 23 November 1897 at Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and he was laid to rest at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

"AMOS EDWARD LAWRENCE, son of Joseph W and Sybil (Heath) Lawrence, was born in Genesee, N Y, on June 25, 1812, and entered (Yale) College from New York City. After graduation he spent a year in travel through the Northwest, before entering the Union Theological Seminary, where he completed the course in 1844. In the Spring of that year he became Assistant Secretary of the American Home Missionary Society, in New York City, in which service he spent four years.

On June 25, 1848, be was ordained and installed over the Presbyterian Church in Cutchogue, (Suffolk County, Long Island, NY), where he remained for three years. On December 10, 1851, he was installed over the Congregational Church in Southbury, Conn, but was dismissed in July, 1860, to accept a call to the Congregational Church in Lancaster, Mass., where he remained until March 15,1864. His next engagement was in Housatonic, in the town of Great Barrington, Mass., where he preached from 1866 to 1869. He removed to Stockbridge, Mass., and thence in 1874 to Newton, Mass., where he was a useful and honored citizen. His service as a member, and for some years chairman, of the School Committee, was especially valued.

He married on September 1, 1846, Hannah, daughter of Robert L. Bowne, of New York City, who died on April 11, 1858. He next married, on May 18, 1859, Ann Maria, fourth daughter of Oliver Crocker, of New Bedford, Mass, who died on August 20, 1865. He married again, on June 12, 1867, Lucy W., daughter of Samuel Davis, of Boston, who survives him. By his first marriage he had one daughter and one son; and by his second marriage (three) sons and one daughter. His children survive him, except the eldest daughter, (and an infant son by his second marriage)."
