Arthur was the son of English born parents, his father choosing to stay in Minnesota and become a druggist rather than move with his parents, brothers and sister to Michigan. Eventually, Arthur and his family would follow the family to Michigan in 1879—and back again to Minnesota where many descendents of surviving children, Willard and Marion, still live.
