Orville G. Nelson was born on March 21, 1926 to Ralph and Lydia (Mathison) Nelson in Toronto, South Dakota. He attended Toronto public school. Orville was confirmed in the Bloom Prairie Lutheran Church.
He entered the United States Army in January, 1945 and served mostly in Japan during World War II. After he was honorably discharged, Orville returned to the Toronto area and farmed.
On January 9, 1953 he married Gertrude Frances Prange in the Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple lived in Clear Lake and Brookings, SD and did some farming in the Estelline, SD area. In 1960 they moved to Watertown where he was employed at several businesses before he started working at Chickasha Mobile Homes. Orville worked in the flooring department, was a dispatcher for several years and pulled and repaired trailers for many years. After his retirement, he went back to farming for several years. Gertrude passed away on August 19, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother and sister, Marlen and Marlys; a half brother, Daniel; a brother, Roger; a great grandchild; and his wife, Gertrude.
Orville is survived by his stepdaughter, Lois (Roy) Brown of Burns, WY; his son, Michael (Grace) Nelson of Crooks, SD; two daughters, Nancy (Tony) Ryland of Waverly, SD, and Sharon (Ron) Paulson of Watertown, SD; two brothers, Arlen (Doris) Nelson of Shakopee, MN, and Larry (Jan) Nelson of Denver, CO; two sisters, Bev (Ron) Lokken of Brandon, SD, and Louene (Bob) Bloedow of Burnsville, MN; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
