Frances Elizabeth Nichols Stewart died at the home of her daughter, May Nichols Stewart Mathison, who lived in Linn, Walworth County, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Frances Stewart, Life Long Resident, Dies Tuesday, April 9

Frances Elizabeth Nichols was born December 28, 1855 in Linn township, Wis. She was the third child of S. J. and Mary Ann [correction: Adams] Nichols, who came from Franklin county, Vt., in 1854. She received her education in the rural school of her home district, Miss Moody's Seminary, Lake Geneva, and Whitewater State Normal. She taught in several rural schools and Hebron high school.

On Sept. 22, 1880 she was married to John J. Stewart of Hebron. Three children were born to them, Mary N., Mrs. George Mathison of Lake Geneva, Robert W., and Donald H., Hebron.

She was affiliated with the Presbyterian church, being a faithful worker all her life. Six years ago her husband died, and she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Mathison ever since and where she died, April 9.

She is survived by the three children mentioned, 16 grandchildren who live in Linn and Hebron townships, one brother, C. L. Nichols, Sr., and one sister, Mrs. W. B. Adams, of Northfield, Minn.

Funeral services were held on Thursday from the home of her daughter, conducted by Mrs. Bartlett, reader of the Christian Science church, Lake Geneva and Rev. L. Odiorne, pastor of the Hebron Presbyterian church. Rev. Odiorne sang, "What a Friend We have in Jesus."

Pallbearers were Wm. Aspinall, Frank Stewart, J. W. Smith, H. P. Paaske, Edwin Lines and Lyle Vanderker [Vander Karr]. Burial was in Linn-Hebron cemetery.
