CALHOUN - Christopher Columbus Calhoun, 86, Nancy, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Lake Cumberland Medical Center following a short illness.

A retired farmer and Pulaski County native, he was born July 10, 1893, the son of Thomas Leander Calhoun and Martha Helen Haney Calhoun.

Survivors are two sons, Herbert Calhoun, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Linville Calhoun, Nancy; five daughters, Ruby Tarter, Dayton, Ohio, Bonnie Hinkle, Hamilton, Ohio, Virginia Henderson and Eugenia Calhoun, both of Nancy, and Juanita Daulton, Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Jerry Calhoun, New Castle, Ind., 27 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Denzil, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where the funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow with the Rev. Cecil Roundtree and the Rev. Harlan Avera officiating.

Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Somerset Undertaking Company, which is in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Columbus Calhoun was married to:

1. Bannie Alice (Cain) Calhoun - daughter of Jep Cain and Caroline (Oaks) Cain.

Bannie is buried in the Caintown Cemetery. Her tombstone shows the spelling of her first name as Banney, her date of birth as 2/13/1889, and her date of death as 2/26/1917. According to information provided by Columbus and Bannie's grandson, Jim Calhoun, the dates on her tombstone are not correct. Jim said his family records show her name as Bannie, her year of birth as 1892, and her date of death as 2/13/1918. The date of death shown on the tombstone 2/26/1917 - could not be correct - Bannie gave birth to triplets on 6/01/1917. The triplets names and memorial numbers: Virginia Calhoun Henderson (54991147), Eugenia Calhoun (73302962), and Regenia Calhoun (8814071).
