Politician. Moved to Milwaukee with his wife Elizabeth in 1857. He became active in the wholesale liquor and wine business. He was elected to the State Assembly and State Senate, and was twice elected Mayor of the city of Milwaukee.US Senator from WI. The 21st mayor of Milwaukee in 1878/79. He married Elizabeth M. Schoefel, a daughter of Bernhard Schoeffel of Rochester, New York on Sept. 17, 1855. They had two daughters, Louisa B., whom married C. F. Clarke, son of J. V. Clarke of the Hibernian Bank of Chicago, and Miss Elizabeth Black who never married.
