(Francisca) Frances Gracida was the 3rd daughter born to Felipe Gracida and Brigida Rosales y Martinez on 3 December 1900 in Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico. She, her father Felipe and 3 siblings, (Juana) Juanita, (Josefina) Josephine and (Rafael) Ralph immigrated to the United States in 1912. They settled in Douglas, Arizona.

Frances' father Felipe had left her mother Brigida and taken the children from her; Felipe Gracida eventually immigrated to the US in 1912 with his children. The children never saw their mother again after their father left their mother. Growing up they believed their mother's maiden name was Elizondo and all official records bear this out for all four children. It was only when I found the Mexican Christening records for Juana and Rafael (the oldest and youngest of the siblings) that I discovered Brigida's true family name. I believe Felipe did not want the children to be able to find their mother should they try when they were older.

Frances married (Jose) Clemente Sanchez Calvillo 29 Nov 1919 in Jerome, Arizona. Frances and Clemente had six children, Cecelia, Clemente G, Irene, (Edward) Ralph, Ernest, and (Gilbert) Michael. During their marriage they lived in Douglas, Arizona, Richmond, California and finally settled in Los Angeles, Ca where they raised their family. Clement had a successful produce business up until his death in 1957.

Frances Filled out A Declaration of Intent to Become a U.S. Citizen 10 June 1938. She was granted Citizenship 7 Nov 1958.

Frances Continued to live in the family home in Hollywood until her death in 2000, just short of her 100th Birthday. I remember her as a beautiful woman who would swoop into town bringing glamour, and family love with a dash of fun thrown in for good measure.
