Staff organist at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California for over 45 years.
Curry in the beginning days played at as many as 8 funerals a day 5 to 6 days a week. He believed that funeral music gave survivors "a sense of hope and resurrection". He fulfilled thousands of requests of all kinds of music anything from Broadway show tunes to the Beatles, and played for notable services of Hollywood stars including Jeannette MacDonald, Mary Pickford, Robert Taylor and even Hubert Eaton, "The Builder" of Forest Lawn (by request).
He had the ability to predict practically down to the minute, how long a funeral would last and what scriptures would be read. He began at Forest Lawn as a summer replacement and except for 3 years in the Army Air Corps lasted over 45 years.
He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Erasmus College in Surrey, England and has composed liturgical music and adopted hymns for the organ, 10 volumes of his work have been published. He also played organ and led church choirs in the Glendale, California area for many years. He was born Reginald Donald Curry.
