Flemington - Homer L. Smith, 65, died Oct. 22 at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. He was formerly in civil service, retiring from MATES at Fort Stewart and serving 43 years with the Georgia National Guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinesville. He was active with the local Boy Scouts, serving 35 years as Scout Master for Troop 500 and serving with Liberty Independent Troop.

Survivors: a daughter, Debra Pease of Statesboro; a son, Brian L. Smith of Hinesville; a sister, June Hendry of Dalton; a brother, Jimmy E. Smith of McIntosh; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, burial in Flemington Presbyterian Cemetery.
