Niantic - Newton F. Hillyer, 78, of North Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Groton, died Sunday in North Hollywood. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Groton as a young man, moving to California in 1925. He served in World War I under Gen. John Pershing. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret Hillyer; two sons, a daughter, five brothers including Ira A. of New London and Walter and Lawrence Hillyer of Niantic, a sister, 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be conducted Thursday in North Hollywood.
