US Congressman. On February 14, 1865 he enlisted for service in Company I, 186th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, mustering out September 18, 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was awarded a pension on July 28, 1897. Admitted to the bar in 1868, he established a law practice in Woodsfield, Ohio. He was the Monroe County prosecuting attorney from 1871 through 1877, a state senator from 1881 through 1882 and a probate judge from 1884 through 1890. Politically a Democrat, he served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1891 through March 3, 1895 and then resumed his law practice until his death.
