Professor and later Dean of School of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University).

Played on the 1st API football team in 1892. Served as first President of Southern Athletic Conference (later SEC) in 1932. Director of the Bank of Auburn 1914-1948. Member of Auburn City Council 1917-1920.

Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn's football stadium, was named in his honor (as well as for Ralph "Shug" Jordan).
