Dick was born in Darke County on March 31, 1925, to the (late) Lee and Virginia (Peters) Abshire.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gordon, Leonard and William Abshire; and sister, Mary Alice Young.
Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty J. (Staudt) Abshire; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Jim Siders of Bradford and Beverly and Tom Kendall of Troy; six granddaughters, Wendy Siders, Lindsay Siders, Janielle and husband, Brian Crickmore, Danielle and husband, Kyle Clack, Kristin and husband, Leo Quinn and Lisa and husband, Tom Maxson; seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Brooklyn Crickmore, Katelynne and Kaden Clack, Madison and Evan Maxson and Tyler Quinn; a sister, Lela Mae Beasley Munn and husband, Jack of Greenville; and other relatives and friends.
He retired from Hobart Bros. with 24 years of service and had previously worked for Altman Mills, Troy for 14 years. He was a member of Wayne Grange and Webster Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, in Bradford, with Rev. James C. Wilson II officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Versailles.
