Harry Courtney Snelling:
Stepfather to Barton Chester Ringstrom.
Harry fought in World War I, He told great stories to his adopted Grand Children, and this short Bio is told by one of those kids, He was a true Gentlemen by all sense of the word beloved by all who ever met him.
He was born as far as he knows in Boston MA. he was taken in by the Snelling family and given there name as a very young boy. When he came of age he joined the Army and was caught up in World War 1, He told of his first assigned duty to an Artillery unit where he was assigned to the Ballon core to call in artillery strikes on the German lines. He told of German Bi-planes strafing the balloons as they were aloft, he said that he had to bailout several times with a new invention called the parachute. After several bailouts he decided to transfer to a more safe military occupation a dispatch rider on an Indian Motorcycle. Needless to say he said that he found out that this was not a favorable change in duty, he said that he had two Motorcycles shot out from under him, he learned kill the messenger, kill the message which was the order of the day by both armies. fortunately he survived and was mustered out in Los Angles California where he met and married my Grandmother.
He earned his living for many years working for Lang Trucking as a driver, He drove the old chain drive Mack Trucks hauling fuel which in those days was about as dangerous of work you could do, in later years he worked for Ford Motor Company in there security department in Los Angles, CA.
