REV. CHRISTOPHER ROBERT ABERCROMBIE - Greer, SC - Wednesday, May 13, 1935 - Rev. Christopher Robert Abercrombie, 63, well known Baptist Minister of the Double Springs Baptist Church section, Oneal Township, Greenville County, SC, north of Greer, SC, died at a Greenville hospital Monday morning, May 13, 1935, at 2:15 o'clock after suffering a stroke on last Thursday afternoon, May 6, 1935. Rev. Abercrombie wa a native of Greenville County, SC and was born and reared in the Oneal Township, Greenville County, SC, but when a young man moved to Oconee County, SC where he lived until six years ago, mobing back to his Greenville County, SC near Sandy Flat. Twenty-eight years ago he entered the Baptist Ministry and has served as Minister of the Baptist Church since that date, and has served Pastorates in Oconee, Pickens and Greenville Counties, SC, and was well known and loved by all that knew him. He was a member of the North Greenville Baptist Association, also a member of the North Greenville Baptist Ministers' Conference and was active in all the duties of his church and its organizations. When a young man he was married to Miss Dora Garrett, who died 12 years ago, and of this union the following children survive: W. J., H, E. H., M. L. and J. L., G. P., Ralph Abercrombie; Mrs. Willie Grant, Mrs. Hovey Graveley, and Miss Dora Belle Abercrombie. Later he was married to Miss Bessie Woodall, who survives with the following children by this union: Jack, Charles, Frank, Harold, Velma, Joeila and Flora Mae Abercrombie; together with 27 grandchildren and his aged father, Mr. J. H Abercrombie; two brothers, D. M. and Harrison Abercrombie and one sister, Mrs. Dicy Pearson, and a large family connection throughout the Piedmont, SC Section. Mr. Abercrombie was a member of the Double Springs Baptist Church, and funeral services will be held from that church Tuesday Morning, May 14, 1935, at 11 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. H. Harbin and the Rev. M. J. Stancell. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: John Bridwell, Clyde Roberts, J. J. Carlton, J. A. Fowler, Belton Page and Charles Spencer. The Deacons of Double Springs Baptist Church and all ministers attending are requested to assembler at the church, Tuesday, May 14, 1935 at 11 o'clock and serve as honorary escort. Pending the hour to leave for funeral of the body will be at the late residence near Double Springs, Greenville County, SC.
