Born 25 Mar 1923, son of Charles George Egli Jr and Mary Margaret (Zellner) Egli.

Baptized on 21 Oct 1923 in New Philadelphia - First Reformed Church by Rev. Wallace W. Foust.

Hazel eyes. 5'10"

New Philadelphia High School Class of 1941 Valedictorian, New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas, Ohio.

Accomplished pianist and organist. Played for his church through high school.

Class of 1945 - Harvard. Undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Architecture.

U.S. Navy officer - LtJG during WWII.
Attended USNR Pre-Midshipman School in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Karnes and the USS Willoughby. Received the Victory Ribbon World War II, American Theater Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 1 star.

Charles hated everything about the war and rarely spoke of his service, especially the horrible things he saw and experienced. Through the years, he eventually spoke about the happier aspects of his training, command, friendships and travels.

Registered architect in several states: Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Alabama, New York? Designed retirement home in Pinehurst, NC.

Talented artist - drawings and paintings. Began designing & hooking rugs/wall hangings as therapy when Mary was first diagnosed with breast cancer.

Loved oyster stew, Hershey chocolate bars, chocolate ice cream sodas, German Chocolate Cake, Mary's fudge (and just about anything she cooked), oysters, choco tacos, popovers, rare London Broil, Dairy Queen, Goshen Dairy. Liked to wear sweaters. Enjoyed gardening (especially growing pumpkins, zinnias, tomatoes, chard and amaryllis).

Sweet, gentle, kind-hearted, loving, family man. Passive compared to Mary. Pan-handlers could see him a mile away! When approached in New York City for money, he would take the person into a nearby restaurant and feed them.

Death: Saturday, 1 Jan 2005 in his Pinehurst, North Carolina home. Wife and daughter present.

Cause of death: ampullary cancer diagnosed in March 2004.

Cremated. Ashes mixed with wife Mary's and scattered in Pinehurst by children.
