John W. Raymond died in Beverly, MA. April 1, 1902, of a cerebral hemorhage, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, 6 days.
He was born in Beverly, Mass., son of James G. and Sally (Conant) Raymond, both of whom were born in Beverly,MA. His residence was at 120 Balch St.
John W. Raymond mustered April 28,1861 as a 1st Lieutenant, into Co."E", MASS.8th Reg't.Vol. Infantry, for a term of three months.(Civil War Data Systems)
On Sept. 19, 1861, he re-enlisted as a Captain and on Sept 20,1861 was mustered into Co."E", MASS. 23rd Reg't., for a term of 3 years. He was paid a $100 bounty by the town of Beverly. He was discharged as a Lieut. Col., June 25, 1865, at Expiration of Service.
After the war, he lived in Beverly, Mass.
He was by occupation a farmer and Probation Officer, in Beverly.
He was buried in the North Beverly Cemetery, April 4,1902, (Cemetery Card #776) Lot 45, Pl 2.
