CLAY CENTER-- M. Jeane Hanson, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center.

Mrs. Hanson was born May 26, 1918, at Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Carl and Bess (Davis) Nelson.

She grew up in Chicago, Ill. before moving to Clay Center with her family. She attended school in Clay Center from sixth grade until her junior year of high school when the family moved to Junction City. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1937. She married Raymond Hanson of Clifton on Sept. 10, 1939. They farmed south of Clifton until her husband retired and they moved to Clay Center. She worked at Pearl's and Kegs ladies dress shop. Her husband preceded her in death on March 21, 1991. Later she married Wayne Hammel on Feb. 17, 1996, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2008.

She was a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Church before transferring her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, the Willing Helpers Club, Happy Hour Club, 4-H project leader, American Red Cross and bloodmobile member and Vice Regent of the D.A.R. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Esslinger and husband Dean of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Chuck Hanson and wife Debra of Kansas City and Richard Ray Hanson and wife Linda of Shawnee; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel, Clay Center, with the Rev. James Byers officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Saturday to service time.

Memorials may be made to Clay Center Public Utilities Commission with "Zoo Improvements" on the memo line in care of the funeral home, 918 7th St., Clay Center, KS 67432.
