Sister Rose Grennan died March 15, 2007, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, KS. She was 99 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 79 years. She was born in Densmore, KS on June 30, 1907 to William J. and Mary Doyle Grennan, the first of thirteen children and was baptized Rose Margaret. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS. on January 28, 1927. On August 15, 1927, Rose received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister William Marie. Later, she returned to her baptismal name of Rose. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1928 and final vows on August 15, 1932. Sister Rose received her BA in Education from Marymount College, Salina, and she taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Abilene, Tipton, Clyde, Herington, Concordia, Schoenchen, Antonino, Cawker City, and Plainville in Kansas and in Boonville, MO, St. George, IL, Grand Island, NE and Silver City, NM. In 1994 Sister Rose retired to St. Mary's Convent in Concordia; in 1997 she moved to Nazareth Motherhouse and in 2004 she moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia.

Sister Rose was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three sisters, Margaret Daily, Des Plaines, IL; Kathleen Williams, Sacramento, CA; and Polly Champlin, Mead, CO; one brother, Rev. James Grennan, Stockton, KS; one sister-in-law, Teresa Grennan, Jamestown, KS and many nieces and nephews.

A Bible Vigil Service will be held Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Beth Stover as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. James Grennan presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Memorials for Sister Rose Grennan may be given to the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care/ Retirement Fund or the Apostolic Works of the Sisters; P.O Box 279, Concordia, KS 66901.
