Jane was a deaf-mute. She was widowed at age 47 with 4 daughters to raise alone on a civil war widow's pension. Her only son had drown previously in an accident at the Charlotte pier. She died of gastritis at her home at 379 Lyell Ave, Rochester. She was survived by 4 daughters: Mary Maslin, Rose Connaughty, Clara Anderson and Jennie Toal.
