Funeral services for George W. Harris, 71, of Route One, Sherrard, were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, in the Crummy Funeral Home, Viola with the Rev. C. Dale Edward, pastor of the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Rock Island, officiating. Burial was in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville.

Mr. Harris died Sunday night in Mercy Hospital, Davenport, where he had been a patient since Nov. 1_.

He was born Jan. 31, 1899 in England and came to this country as a small child with his parents, who settled in Sherrard, where he received his education.

He married Mary Ethel Jones in Aledo on April 2_, 1920. They had resided in the Boden community since their marriage.

Mr. Harris had been a coal miner for many years and was a coremaker for the Farmall Works in Rock Island for 20 years, retiring Jan. 31, 19__.

He was of Protestant faith.

Surviving are the widow; nine daughters, Miss Mable Harris and Mrs. George Fortner, both of Aledo; Mrs. Earl Baker of Edmonds, Wash., Mrs. Jerry Lee of Colorado Springs, Mrs. Don Meyer of Newport News, Va., Mrs. Wayne Jordan, Mrs. Robert Gulley and Mrs. Arthur Crocker, all of Matherville and Mrs. V. L. Seals of Fort Madison, Ia.; four sons, Robert, James, Larry and Kenneth Harris, all of the Boden community; 23 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, James Harris of Matherville and Chris Harris of Aledo and three sisters, Mrs. Emily Doyle of Moline, Mrs. Dora Greeberg of Manitowoc, Wis., and Mrs. Alice Carver of Aledo.

His parents, a son, a daughter, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
