Nellie was the daughter of Steven and Mary Roe Reed of Cass County, Iowa. She married Newton Campbell in Iowa in 1895. They moved to Wyoming to homestead near Wheatland. The couple had 9 children: Burrell, Edith, Murrel, Inez, Edward, Icie, Cecil, Ilia and Opal.
