Charles W. 'Colonel' Durfee, abt 1940, Golconda, Pope County, Illinois. I knew Colonel Durfee for the last 20 years of his life (I was 20 when he died). He was my Daddy's law partner during the 1930s in Golconda, Illinois. I remember him and 'Miss Edna,' his third wife, with great fondness. During my growing-up years, the Durfees were frequent guests in our home...and they always attended Daddy's birthday dinners. Miss Edna made absolutely awesome angel food cakes with lovely white frosting, and she always brought one to Daddy on his birthday. Colonel Durfee could regale a large group of people of all ages with his recollections of life after the Civil War and his stories of the many interesting and fascinating cases he had tried in court.
