Mrs. Brown was born in Halifax County on April 26, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Mr. Charlie Ewell and Mrs. Annie Poindexter Ewell.
She was married to the late Mr. Adolphus Brown Sr. and was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church.
Mrs. Emma Ewell Brown is survived by three daughters, Ms. Diane Brown and Ms. Hattie Brown, both of Clover, and Mrs. Preteasta "Tee" Barksdale of Lynchburg; eight sons, Mr. James Harold Brown, Mr. Adolphus Brown Jr., Mr. Andrew Brown, Mr. Dwight Brown, and Mr. Lionell Brown, all of Clover, Mr. Flave Brown of Roxboro, N.C., Mr. Archie Brown of Queens, N.Y., and Mr. Randy Brown of Forest; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Bell West and Mrs. Edmonia Bailey, both of Richmond, and Mrs. Lou Ella Jennings of Nathalie; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one son-in-law, six sisters-in-law, four daughters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Frances Ewell Brown were held Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Bethel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Tucker and the Rev. William Hicks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main Street, South Boston.
