Blasingame Matriarch Dies In Hospital
Mrs. Mary Jane Blasingame, 82, of 2873 South Clovis Avenue, a second generation Californian, died today in a Fresno hospital, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Blasingame was born in the Academy district and had lived in Fresno County all of her life. Her husband, J.A. Blasingame, a cattle rancher and vineyardist, died in 1931.
Father Fought In Civil War
Mrs. Blasingame's mother, the late Mrs. Sallie Sample, was born in Solano County. Her father, the late David Cowan Sample, came to California in 1868 from Mississippi. During the Civil War he fought with the South Texas Cavalry*.
Mrs. Blasingame was a member of the Leisure Hour Club and the Daughters of the Confederacy.
She is survived by a son, Jesse Knox Blasingame of Clovis, a cattle rancher and grape and grain grower; two brothers, W.C. Sample of Madera and F.C. Sample of Fresno; two sisters, Mrs. Everett Wilcox and Mrs. George P. Beveridge of Fresno; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The Rev. Donald L. Cates of the First Congregational Church will officiate at the funeral services at 2 PM Friday in Lisle Calaveras Chapel. Burial will follow in the Belmont Memorial Park.
*D.C. was a scout under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest.
