My paternal grandmother, Mary was born and raised in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. She attended St. Paul's German Evangelical Church. She married Wm. C. Protz in 1917 . The couple had two sons, William and Robert but were divorced in 1921. Mary continued living in Detroit with her mother, Elizabeth and several brothers. Mary died of tuberculosis while a patient at East Lawn Sanitorium.
