John Dittbrender was born in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin on July 11, 1878, son of August and Eva (Garr) Dittbrender. He was educated in the local schools.
Mr. Dittbrender was a farmer all his life, living on the same farm in Ringle, Marathon County from 1899 until 1960. He served the town of Ringle in many capacities: he was town assessor for seven years, town chairman from 1915-1939, member of the road and bridge committee of Marathon County for six years and chairman for three years, director of the Marathon County Park Board, director of the Marathon County Fair Board from 1916-1939, and school director for 31 years. He was the second president of the Marathon County Park Board and after serving on the board for 45 years, was voted the singular honor of lifetime honorary chairman. Mr. Dittbrender was elected to the Wisconsin state assembly on the Progressive ticket in 1938 and served in the 1939 – 1940 session.
On March 3, 1900 John Dittbrender was married in Wausau to Augusta Voeltz. They had one daughter. Mr. Dittbrender was considered by many to be the foremost pioneer in the development of park and recreation lands in Marathon County.
John Dittbrender died on January 4, 1966. He is buried in Forestville Cemetery in the town of Easton, WI.
