Samuel Schureman, farmer and stock raiser, sec. 35 ; P. O., Green Valley; was born in Essex Co., N. J., March 1, 1818. His parents were John and Jane Schureman, natives of N. J. Mr. S. received a common school education in his native State, and was united in marriage May 15, 1845, to Cornelia H. Dickinson, a daughter of Philomen and Cornelia (Howel) Dickinson, of Essex Co., N. J. Mrs. Schureman died Oct. 27, 1858. She was the mother of five children — Mary E., born Feb. 1, 1846; Alice, born Jan. 28, 1848; John., born Jan. 3, 1851, who died while an infant of one year; William H., born Sept. 11, 1863; Charles E., born Oct. 25, 1856. Mrs. S. was a member of the Presbyterian Church at the time of her death. Mr. S. was again married March 30, 1865, to Deborah Osborn, daughter of John and Sarah Osborn, of N. J. With a stout heart and a determined will Mr. S. has made life a success.

Mr. Samuel Schureman was the original proprietor of the land upon which Green Valley is located. He entered it in
1852. The town was laid off by Mr. Schureman, Oct. 19, 1872.

Born in New Providence, New Jersey.
In 1849, he moved to Jacksonville, IL.
In 1851, he relocated to Green Valley in Tazewell County.
In 1888, he relocated to Normal, IL.
Survived by his wife; and four children: W. H. Schureman of Normal (cashier of bank); Charles E. Schureman of Green Valley, Mrs. W. Hanford of Green Valley, and Mrs. B. P. Melick of Lyndon, Kansas.

Jane Totten (1st child of Jonathan Totten and Ester Wood) married John McClasky Schureman (son of John Schureman). They had 3 children (Jonathan, Samuel, and Henrietta. Sometime after Jane died, John married his 2nd wife, Mrs Melick. Her son married 1 of Samuel's daughters.
