His favorite dessert was pecan pie. As a teenager, he spent some time at (BIS) Boys Industrial School in Topeka, Kansas.

Geary married Nancy Schnakenberg on December 1, 1973 at the Ridgewood Congregation Church in Kansas City, Missouri - Jackson County. They divorced 1977 or 1978.

Geary died at age 47 of lung cancer.
