Son of Simon George and Amelia (Lippoldt) Waldsmith. Stepson of Theron Geistweit. Raised by his aunt and uncle, George and Addie (Waldsmith) Kepner. Husband of Dorothy Anne Quinlan. Father of John and Martha.

Professional Football player during the early years of the National Football League. He played at Akron High School and Buchtel College, then started his professional career with the Akron Indians in 1914 and was coach and owner of the team in 1919. He later played with the Canton Bulldogs and was on the team when they won the NFL Championship in 1922.
