Hubert married Mildred Charlotte Mangelsdorf on July 29, 1929, in Atchison, Kansas, at "Homewood", the home of Mildred's grandfather Ernst August Mangelsdorf and her step-grandmother Mary Louise (Brune) Mangelsdorf. Mildred's brother, Eugene Brune Mangelsdorf, was a groomsman.

Hugh and Mil had two children, Barbara Joan and Hubert Harvey.

Hugh and Mil bought their home which was located at 310 Parallel, Atchison, KS.

Hugh and Mil established and operated The Bell Shoe Store at 615 Commercial, Atchison, KS; they also owned the building housing their store.

They also owned and worked on their 60 acre farm just outside Atchison, KS, raising grain crops.

Upon retiring, they sold their shoe store, the building housing it, their home, and their farm and moved to Johnson County, Kansas.

Hubert & Mildred celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 1979, at 2313 West 71 Street, Prairie Village, Kansas., which was the home of their son, Hubert Harvey Bell, M.D. Professional entertainment was included.

Hubert Harvey Bell, Sr., 94, Prairie Village, KS, died May 28, 1996, at Trinity Lutheran Manor, Merriam, KS. Private graveside services will be held at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Bell graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Following his graduation, he completed a year at the University of Kansas, School of Law. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, KU Chapter.

Mr. Bell was a merchant in Atchison, KS, for 59 years.

Mr. Bell is survived by his wife Mildred, his daughter Barbara Bell Hunter, his son Hubert Harvey Bell, M.D.,and brother Donald Bell, all of Johnson County, KS; six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Arrangements: Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf.
