George "Bill" William Seay (LCDR Ret.)
Jan. 18, 1920 - March 2, 2012

Bill was born on Jan. 18, 1920, in Los Angeles, Calif., and passed away on March 2, 2012, in Placerville, Calif., at the ripe old age of 91.

Bill was a fine man who left a legacy of grace and kindness that will be an inspiration for generations to come. His life was about family and faith, but flying and teaching the skill of flying were the two things that defined him through his life and career. As a naval pilot he served aboard the U.S.S. Essex off of the coast of Korea while attached to squadron VF-871 and flew F4-U Corsairs. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid in the Mediterranean while attached to VA-66 and flew A4-D Skyhawks. He always said that if weren't for the Navy he'd still be sleeping on the beach in Coronado. He retired in 1965 after 23 years of service and then took his family to Denver, Colo., where he was a flight operations instructor for United Airlines in the Caravel program. He then finished his professional career as a professor of aviation operations at Metropolitan State College.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice Seay of Coronado, Calif.; his brother, Howard of Carmel, Calif.; and by his one and only love, Maggie Seay. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage before Maggie passed away in February 2009. He was known to her only as "Sweet William" and she was his "Wild Irish Rose."

Bill is survived by his son, Joe Seay and his wife, Connie of Fresno, Calif.; daughter, Sara Wojcik and her husband, Mark of Broomfield, Colo.; grandson, Jake Seay, his wife, Kelly of Edmond, Okla.; grandchildren, Nikki and Alex Wojcik of Colorado; and one great-grandchild, Janelle Seay of Edmond, Okla.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff at Eskaton Village who treated Dad as one of their family and to Snowline Hospice and their superb group of professionals and volunteers who reaffirmed our faith in the goodness of people.

Memorial services will be held at the Green Valley Mortuary in Cameron Park on March 12, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family encourages you to contribute to Snowline Hospice in Diamond Springs, Calif.
