William was born in Dalton and lived there all of his life until he enlisted in the Marines 20 September 1966, at a Nashville Recruiting Office in TN.
He arrived in Vietnam 24 February 1967 and was assigned to CAP Delta-2, 2nd CAG, Combined Action. William was on a patrol with the CAP unit when the Marines were attacked by Viet Cong Forces, 3 kilometers northwest of Dien Ban. William died of multiple shrapnel wounds to the head and chest, as a result of a hostile explosive device.
Survived by his wife, Tennie M Dwight and a daughter, Patrice L Dwight of 306 Frederick St, Dalton and his parents, Dan and Naomi Dwight of
830 Blue Ridge St, Dalton, Georgia.
