Reno is apparently threatened with an epidemic of diphtheria, two deaths having occurred, and a number of other cases being reported. The first fatality was that of Andrew Alvin Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Black of 231 West Third Street, which occurred Monday, the boy being 9 years, 8 months and 6 days of age.

Two sisters of young Black are ill with diphtheria, the young one being reported quite low last night, and the older sister thought to now be out of danger.

*From research I did on ancestry.com, Andrew was the son of John William Black and Celia Roberts. He had an older sister, Teresa Ellen Black who survived her bout with diphtheria, but his younger sister, Georgina Harriet died three days after him.
