Elsie Emily Hackbart

Services for Elsie Emily Hackbart, 96, of River Falls, Wis., and formerly of Delano, were Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Pallbearers were grandchildren and interment was in the Mt. Olive East Cemetery.

Mrs. Hackbart died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at the River Falls Area Hospital. She was born March 11, 1907, to William and Rose (Klein) Wilde in Eden Valley, Minn. She was confirmed (in German) at the Eden Valley Lutheran Church and later married Earl Hardwick in 1937.

They made their home in Glencoe where they started their family, moving to Rochester, Minn., in 1940. In 1954 they moved to Delano, where they owned and operated the Marshall-Wells Hardware Store. Mr. Hardwick died in 1958 and she continued to operate the store for a couple years and later was employed at Jack's Grocery Store until retirement.

She married Herman Hackbart in 1968. After he died in 1986, Mrs. Hackbart continued to reside in Delano where she enjoyed her church (Mt. Olive Lutheran) and friends. She lived independently in her home until one year ago when she moved to an apartment in River Falls to be closer to family.

Her family was her greatest joy. She was a role model in her faith and character. Her church and faith were a great comfort to her throughout her life. Other interests were crocheting, knitting, reading, walking, baking and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Emma, Lydia, Mathilda and Alvina; and brothers, Albert, Edward and John.

She is survived by children, Alden (Mary) Hardwick of Crosslake, Minn. and Sandra (Ed) Schramm of River Falls; grandchildren, Randy (Mary) Schramm, Damon Schramm, Dana (Kari) Schramm, Lara (Ross) Simonson, Kirk (Joni) Hardwick, Timothy (Cheri) Hardwick and Todd Hardwick and eight great-grandchildren, Laura Hardwick, Christopher Hardwick, Kylee Schramm, Lexi Schramm, Jacqueline Schramm, James Schramm, Jaydon Simonson and Abigail Simonson.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Mrs. Hackbart's devotion to family, warm smile and compassion for others will be deeply missed.
