Lexington, Georgia - Joseph Alexander Carey, 79, died September 1, 2004.
A native of Barnett, GA, he was the son of the late Myra Ledbetter and Joseph Alexander Carey, Sr. A graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute, Crawfordville, GA, he attended the University of Georgia. He was a retired chief warrant officer with the U.S. Army, having served in WW II. He was a member of American Legion Post 123, Lexington, and Oglethorpe County Rotary Club. Following his retirement, he was employed with the U.S. Government Water and Soil Conservation Service and was a realtor with Southeast U.S. Land Exchange. Mr. Carey was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Carey Callaway of Washington, GA and brother, Thomas E. Carey of Aiken, SC.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 3, 2004 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Washington, GA with Father John Conway officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 PM at Clark Cemetery, Lexington.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtice P. Carey; 3 daughters, Myra Carey Carbonell of San Diego, CA, Melanie Carey McMichael of Lake Oconee, GA and Jody Carey Deaton of Rome, GA; 5 sisters, Mildred Carey Brown of Washington, GA, Elizabeth Carey Jones of Norfolk, VA, Nell Carey Adcock of Dunwoody, GA, Catherine Carey Flocker and Grace Carey Ferguson, both of Washington, GA; 5 grandchildren, Alex McMichael, Pate McMichael, Adam Carbonell, Jared Deaton and John Prosser Deaton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Lord and Stephens Oglethorpe Chapel, Crawford is in charge of arrangements.
