Sgt. Martin Carrill served in World War ll from 11 October 1941 until 6 February 1946. He was in Co A, 41st Regiment, 2nd Armored Division. He was a Heavy Machine Gunner a Half-Track Commander. He served under General George S. Patton. He went all the way to Germany with General Patton. He served as a guard of General Eisenhower at the surrender of Germany. He received metals from both Belgium and France, plus numerous other metals. On his separation papers it states "Served in the European Theatre of Operations with 2nd Armored Division as squad leader in machine gun section. Led and supervised men in combat operations. Saw to it that squad received its share of ammunition, clothes, rations, and other supplies." He had many friends and was respected by all who knew him. He was one of three brothers who served in WW II. In our family, Marty was one of my nine first cousins who all served in WW II and came home safely.
