In 1856, Henry and his wife, Henrietta Maria Haeger, arrived in the United States. They had at least two children -- Augusta Henrietta (1858 - 1908) and Bertha Caroline Wilhelmine (1860 - 1892). Henrietta died by 1861.

On 11 August 1861, Heinrich "Henry" marrried Albertine Caroline Wilhelmina Mews, daughter of Friedrich Mews and Charlotte Schulz, at Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maribel, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. (Wisconsin, County Marriages, 1836-1911)

On 29 September 1864, Henry enlisted as private in the Wisconsin 17th Infantry. He was mustered out at the close of war on 2 June 1864. At that time he was a farmer from Cooperstown, Wisconsin.

On 24 November 1888, Henry married Caroline Frederike Hilkenbach, daughter of John and Maria Hilkenbach.

According to Henry's death record, indexed as Henry Ganger, he died on 5 December 1907 at the National Soldier's Home in Wauwatosa. He was buried on 7 December 1892 in Wood National Cemetery. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U. S. Deaths, 1854-1911)
