He graduated from the US Naval Academy, Class of 1911. He resigned his US Navy commission on Sept 15 1924, with the rank of LT Commander. He received/accepted a commission in the US Naval Reserve in 1929, with the rank of LT Commander. His speciality was as an engineering officer. He retired on June 1 1947, rank of Captain, USNR (apparently for health reasons). His officer file (service) number was 07655.

He was listed as an Officer of the USS Virginia during the February 12-27 1919 voyage.

In 1945, at the time his son was killed in action, LCDR Keller was living in Newtonville, Boston MA.

Interment was March 20, 1975.
