Mrs. Matilda Campbell passed away Sunday, January 6, 1929, at her home in Avoca, aged 83 years, 11 months and 14 days. Mrs. Campbell had an attack of the influenza and at her advanced age, could not overcome the effects although she had seemingly improved. She suffered a relapse and passed away in a few days.
Mrs. Campbell was born in the state of Pennsylvania, February 23, 1845. She is one of the early settlers in this part, having lived in or near Avoca for fifty years. Her husband, Dr. W. E. Campbell, passed away about four years ago.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Rankin of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Alice Emmert of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Hazel Frigurg of Dexter, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Kate Whiteman of Los Angeles, California; one stepson, Wm. Campbell of Avoca.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, January 8, at 8 o'clock p.m., Rev. J. S. T. Sloan officiating. Burial was made in the Avoca cemetery.
Since the death of her husband Mrs. Campbell and her sister-in-law, Miss Kate Campbell, have lived together.
NOTE: Matilda was the second wife of William Campbell. Her name at the time of their marriage was Mrs. Matilda Loy.
