GILBERT REMAINS TO LIE IN STATE TODAY
Courts to Close Monday Morning for Jurist's Last Rites
The body of F. L. Gilbert, prominent Madison attorney, who died Friday at a Madison hospital, will lie in state at the Frautschi funeral parlors all day Sunday, pending funeral services and interment in Forest Hill mausoleum Monday.
Dane county courts will be closed Monday morning during the last rites for Mr. Gilbert, and the American flag on the Dane county court house will be flown at half mast, in accordance with the custom when a member of the county bar succumbs.
Judge A. C. Hoppmann of branch two of circuit court, announced Saturday night that his court, in which the fall jury term of the court is being held, will not convene until 11 a.m. because of the funeral.
Members of the Dane county bar will meet at the Park hotel and attend the funeral rites at the church in a body, leaving the hotel promptly at 8:45, in accordance with the request of the president of the organization, H. H. Thomas.
Services are to be held at 8:30 a.m., at the Frautschi funeral home, and at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic church. The Rev. P. F. Knox will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Russell Jackson, Milwaukee, Mr. Gilbert's early law partner; Levi H. Bancroft, United States district attorney for the eastern district of Wisconsin at Milwaukee; Leo Crowley, president of the Bank of Wisconsin, and Roman Heilman, L. W. Raeder and Emerson Ela all Madison attorneys.

BIOGRAPHY: "Frank L. Gilbert (Rep.) of Madison was born March 3, 1864, in Arena, Iowa County, Wisconsin. When but a few months old he was made an orphan by the death of his father in the civil war. His early youth was spent in Iowa County, Wisconsin, working on farms in the summer and attending school in the winter. He taught his first school at the age of sixteen and graduated from the Mazomanie high school in 1883. He later entered the academic department of the University, but before graduating was obliged to abandon his studies in order to earn means to pursue them. In 1896 he entered the law school of the state university, passed the state bar examination in 1897, and though engaged actively in practice continued his studies in the law school graduating in 1899. Served as district attorney of Dane County from January 1st, 1902, to January 1st, 1907. Was nominated as the republican candidate for attorney general in 1906, receiving 73,761 votes against 44,102 for C.A.A. McGee and 26,423 for Wallace Ingalls. Was elected attorney general, receiving 179,427 votes, against 99,391 for Martin Lueck (Dem.), 14,411 for Richard Elsner (Soc. Dem.) and 7,991 for B. E. VanKeuren (Pro.)"
