Mrs. Gertrude H. Shaw, 94, of Martinsville, VA, died on January 3, 2001 at Blue Ridge Rehab. Center, Martinsville. She was born in Fries, VA on October 6, 1906 to the late Zebadee and Mary Rakes Handy. She was retired from Fieldcrest Knitting after 35 years service. She was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for 25 years.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her son, Robert I. Shaw of Martinsville; two sisters, Loeva H. Mills and Madeline Handy, both of Lawsonville, NC; a brother, Elwood Handy of Axton, VA; and two step-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irving J. Shaw in 1958.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2001 at 11:00 A.m. at the Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 5, 2001 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
