BAINBRIDGE
Frank C. Bainbridge, 77, active in veterans affairs, in Irwin for many years, died suddenly early this morning in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He had been in Mechanicsburg Saturday where he accepted two awards for the J. Howard Snyder VFW Post 781, Irwin. A World War I veteran, Bainbridge served with the 309th aerial squadron in England. He served Post 781 as commander from 1946-1947 and was presently serving the post as quartermaster. He was also District 27 commander of American Legion Post 359 Irwin, he also belonged to Chateau Thierry Barracks 1570 World War I and First Presbyterian Church, Irwin. Bainbridge resided at Fifth St., Irwin. He was born in Pittsburgh May 14, 1893, a son of the late George F. and Anna Williams Bainbridge. He was employed as a signalman for Pennsylvania Railroad prior to retirement and served as a grievance committeeman for 50 years. When the teletype system was installed, he was sent to school to learn the operation and was given special schooling on the automatic telephone. A son, George Fred Bainbridge died in World War II while serving on the USS Juneau along with the five Sullivan brothers. He and his wife, Gladys, observed their golden anniversary last August. She is also active in community and veterans affairs and has served for many years as treasurer of District 27 VFW Auxiliary. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Counahan, Townsend, Md.
